Help: MapThe map page shows the Google Map along with any markers visible on the current map.
Navigation
Please refer to the Google Map documentation for more detail on navigating around the map.
Pan
The map can be panned or moved in the direction north , east , south and west by clicking on the appropriate arrow buttons in the corner of the map. Alternatively the map can be dragged by clicking on the map, holding down the mouse button and moving the mouse cursor. Releasing the mouse button causes the map to pan.
Zooming
The scale of the map can be changed by zooming in or zooming out. Clicking on the button on the map or by double clicking on the map will result in the map zooming in. Clicking on the button results in the map zooming out.
Currently markers will only be shown on the map at zoom level 8 or higher (zooming in). Below this level groups of markers are represented by the icon. By zooming in to level 8 or above the markers will become visible. This is by design to restrict the number of markers that your browser will have to handle which could be in the range of several hundred. By zooming in the area is smaller and so is the number of markers which could be up to a hundred.
Geocoder Search
The geocoder can be used to locate a point on the map by typing the name into the 'Geocoder Search' box.
Enter the name, address or latitude and longitude into the search bar and press 'Find'. The map will be centered on the location (if the location can be found). Try to be as specific as possible when entering a location name as there can be multiple locations with the same name. For example to find 'Boston' in the UK, enter 'Boston, UK'.
Map Detail
The map detail can be changed to display either an outline map or a satellite image. A hybrid of the two can also be shown.
Map
Clicking on the button shows an outline map featuring just roads, rails and place names.
Satellite
Clicking on the button shows the map as a satellite image.
Hybrid
Clicking on the button shows the satellite image with the outline map overlayed on top.
Markers
Markers are icons representing points on the map. Each marker represents a location or point of interest on the map.
Icons
The top left corner of the icon represents the actual point on the map to which the marker refers.
The following is a list of all the icon types.
 | View Point | Any publicly accessible area where shipping can be viewed. | | Car Parking | Any public car parking locations either free or pay, including suitable on road parking. | | Maritime | Any location of maritime interest such as ports, anchorages, shipping channels, etc. | | Other | Any other relevant information that does not fit into any other category. |
